Teaching Statistics in Higher Education

lecture3 We offer a range of prospects for studying how to teach statistics at Higher Education (HE) level. These take the form of distance learning courses and materials, and are run by The Higher Education Academy Maths, Stats and OR Network, in association with The Royal Statistical Society Centre for Statistical Education.

There are many teachers involved in the delivery of statistics in schools and colleges who lack the confidence and competence to teach the subject successfully. This is due to their lack of opportunities to learn, either because they do not have a mathematical degree or such a degree did not include Statistics. We have devised a distance learning course that leads to a CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING STATISTICS (up to Pre-university Level). It is an ideal way to do continuing professional development that, at the same time, leads to a recognised qualification.

The Day Break Programme

meetings2 The successful series of Day Break courses run by the Higher Education Academy Maths, Stats & OR Network will continue into a sixth year. In 2009 we will be offering courses tailored to the interests and needs of participants or specialised groups and these will concentrate the innovative use of statistics software in teaching.

RowingAtSchool

R@S Staff at the RSSCSE are working with colleagues at Concept2 in order to collect real data from schools and school-age learners that use its rowing machine. RowingAtSchool is to be the first part of a larger SportAtSchool project form the RSSCSE.
